“Are You Jesus?” – When Compassion Becomes Our Calling Card

The Rushed World

A group of salesmen sprinted through Chicago’s airport, late for their flight. When one accidentally knocked over an apple stand, eleven kept running—but one stopped. That decision revealed more than character; it revealed Christ.

The Unseen Struggle

What the salesman discovered changed everything:

  • A 16-year-old blind girl, tears streaming, groping for scattered apples
  • A swirling crowd too busy to care
  • Bruised fruit—and a bruised spirit

In that moment, he became the answer to a prayer she hadn’t voiced.

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:16

The Divine Question

After gathering apples, paying for damages, and offering comfort, her trembling question stopped him cold: “Are you Jesus?” Not because he:

  • Preached a sermon
  • Performed a miracle
  • Wore a cross necklace

But because he acted like Jesus would—seeing the unseen, valuing the undervalued.

Three Lessons for Us

  1. Divine appointments hide in interruptions: God moments often look like inconveniences (Luke 10:33-34)
  2. Comfort costs something: The $40 was cheap compared to the lesson etched on his soul
  3. We’re walking gospels: People read Christ in our actions before our words

Your “Apple Stand” Moment

Today, opportunities to reflect Jesus await in:

  • The stressed cashier
  • The lonely neighbor
  • The frustrated stranger

Challenge: Slow down enough to notice—you might hear heaven’s whisper: “This one’s for You, Lord.”
